A QR code contest for packaging that leaves a list behind

A QR code contest for packaging is only as good as what happens after the scan. A landing page nobody finishes wastes the print run. A 90-second quiz with a prize draw gets finished, and every entrant arrives in your sheet with the consent they ticked.

One pass = one 30-day campaignLucky draw on the date you announceConsent ledger for legal
A scan-to-play card with a QR code, the event code PLAYME and the line '90 seconds, prize draw Friday'.
The same QR on every pack and poster opens one quiz; the draw happens on the date you print.

What a QR code contest for packaging should do

The code on the pack has one job: turn a buyer into a contact you are allowed to talk to. Three things decide whether it does. The page after the scan must load fast on a phone in a kirana store with one bar of 4G. It must ask for as little as possible before the fun starts. And it must make the consent honest, because a consumer promotion collects data from the public, not from a trade visitor who expects a follow-up.

A quiz does all three when it is short. Five to eight questions about the product or the brand, a timer, a one-line explanation after each answer, a score and a rank against everyone else who scanned. Then the entry into the draw. Fictional example: Bravanto Retail prints a QR on a snack pack, asks eight questions about regional recipes, and draws a prize every Friday for four weeks.

Campaign mode: one event, thirty days, any number of packs

An event on QDevine is not tied to a room. Print the same QR on packs, posters, standees and the launch invite; every scan opens the same quiz. One Event Pass covers the event for 30 days from the moment you make it live, with unlimited entrants, so a four-week promotion is one pass at ₹9,999 plus GST. Running a promotion a month? Passes are ₹7,999 each from three and ₹5,999 each from ten, and the credits stay valid for 12 months.

One entry per person: the email or phone number locks a second attempt, so the same buyer cannot flood the draw from one pack. Staff can reset an attempt if a genuine entrant asks.

The lucky draw, on the date you announce

The draw is built in. On the announced date, open the board on a screen or share it on a video call and press draw. It picks at random from everyone who finished, or only from those who opted in to marketing if you prefer, and skips anyone who has already won, so a weekly draw goes to somebody new each week. The winner's name and city pop on the board, and their own phone shows the prize with a share card for WhatsApp. That share is how a contest travels beyond the pack.

Consent for a consumer promotion

Consumer promotions collect personal data from the public, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act expects a notice and a clear consent before you use it for marketing. The entry form carries two separate lines: one to take part, one to be contacted. The privacy notice is generated from your event settings, opens from the consent line, and is available in English and Hindi. Link your own brand policy as well.

Every tick is written to a consent ledger: the exact wording, its version fingerprint, the time, the language, and a hashed IP and device string. If an entrant asks to be removed, erase them from the dashboard, or erase an email across every campaign from Settings, and a hashed tombstone stays so you can still show that consent existed. Data stays in the AWS Mumbai region.

Where the entries go

  • Google Sheet. Share a sheet with the service account and every entry appends a row as it happens, with the score written in when they finish.
  • Webhook. A signed JSON message on registration and on completion, to Zapier, Make or your own endpoint, for a CRM or a WhatsApp business tool.
  • CSV. Rank, name, email, mobile, city or any custom field, score, time, consent time and wording version, and the draw result.
  • WhatsApp follow-up. A wa.me button per entrant with your template rendered, and a thank-you email to opt-ins when the campaign stops.

Questions brand teams ask

How many scans can the contest take?

There is no cap on a paid event. Each phone talks to the server on its own and every answer is a tiny request, so a television spot that sends thousands of people to the pack at once is normal.

Can the QR go on the pack before the contest starts?

Yes. The QR and the code are fixed when the event is created; the 30 days start only when you make it live. Print early, go live on launch day.

Can we ask for a mobile number instead of an email?

You choose the fields. The mobile field is normalised for WhatsApp and either email or phone can lock the one-entry-per-person rule. Ask for as little as the promotion needs.

Is the draw fair and can we prove it?

The draw is random among eligible finishers and skips earlier winners. Each winner is marked on their entry with the time of the draw, the event keeps a count of draws, and the CSV has a Prize column, so you can show who won.
